The youngest female cabinet minister in Canadian history and the first to become a mother while in office, Karina Gould is a lifelong Burlington resident and has been a fierce advocate for her community since she was elected in 2015.
For six years, Karina has been working to address your concerns related to climate change, healthcare, seniors issues, childcare, the economy and the rising costs of living and the need for good jobs and greater equality. She has delivered on affordable housing, investments to protect our great lakes, in local businesses and community infrastructure. She is passionate about breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for women and underrepresented groups.
Following Karina’s election in October 2019 as the Member of Parliament for Burlington, she was appointed as the Minister of International Development. She has worked diligently to promote Canada’s action and reputation on the world stage, making Canada a leader in the global efforts to combat COVID-19 and is leading Canada’s international response to Climate Change and humanitarian disasters. A champion for gender equality, Karina has worked tirelessly to fight hunger, eradicate extreme poverty and build a more peaceful, more inclusive and prosperous world.
Since the pandemic hit, Karina has worked around the clock to ensure Burlington residents and small businesses have the help and support they need to get through the most challenging health and economic crisis of our generation. She is deeply committed to her community and proud of the incredible residents of Burlington.
The daughter of a small business owner, Karina understands hard work. She will continue to support the residents of Burlington and our small businesses as we recover from this pandemic and build a stronger more inclusive community.
You can count on Karina to stand up for you, everytime. It’s why she ran for office in the first place, to make this community and this country a fairer, more equal, more welcoming place for all Canadians.
Karina lives in Burlington with her husband Alberto and their son Oliver. She obtained degrees from McGill and Oxford, and worked in international affairs before entering politics.
